This is probably one of the hardest prediction lists I have ever developed for Miss Universe. Miss Universe is always tough to predict because so many beautiful girls all over the world can easily be the top contender for the crown.
In fact, Miss Universe has always surprised me by advancing some of the girls whom I did not pay attention to, so this year, I have been watching all girls carefully and determining who are “under the radar,” but can potentially be “dark horses.” I did see a lot of them this year. That’s one of the reasons the judges will have a very tough time picking the titleholder for Miss Universe 2012.
After studying, researching, and watching preliminaries, I have found Miss South Africa to be one of the potential top contenders. I personally think she will be in the top 5, but I am afraid that she will be like Miss China 2011 whom many thought would win Miss Universe 2011. Alyssa Campanella who almost won Miss Universe 2011 did not, at the time, have good prospects for the title given how skinny she looked. Many of us thought that hurt her. I strongly believe the judges should not look at the body itself. Instead, they should look at the whole package and Alyssa had the whole package. She is by far one of the best Miss USA. I, too, loved Leila Lopes, Miss Angola 2011. To be candid with you, I did not pay attention to her at that time, but in retrospect, I am glad that she won because she set up an amazing example for all of the girls in the pageant world.
As I spent hours and hours figuring out the top 16, I couldn’t place any girls in the top 10 and 5. It was very tough for me, so I decided to just announce my top 16 and honorables.
In random order, my top 16 are:
USA, Puerto Rico, South Africa, Venezuela, Paraguay, Finland, Croatia, Australia, Malaysia, Mexico, Philippines, Kosovo, Panama, El Salavador, France, and Bolivia.
If I could have top 20, I would also add Czech republic, Ireland, Georgia, Norway, and Poland or Singapore.
As for honorables: I chose Ireland, Curacao, Czech Republic, Singapore, Georgia, Germany, Honduras, Norway, Poland, Hungary, Guatemala, Ecuador, Netherlands, Spain and Japan. I am sure that a few of the honorables would be placed in the top 16.
It’s clear from many pageant bloggers, experts, and die hard core fans that they all agree that USA, Philippines, Venezuela, Australia, Puerto Rico, Kosovo, Malaysia, El Salvador, Croatia, South Africa, and Czech Republic are the girls that the world is watching as the new Miss Universe 2012.
A number of people from Twitter have posted their predictions that I want to share with you:
Cullen Dunkerson predicts Miss. South Africa as Miss Universe 2012, 1RU Puerto Rico, 2RU USA, 3RU El Salavador, 4RU Malaysia. As for the top 10, Venezuela, Guatemala, Mexico, Aruba, and Kosovo. As for the top 16, France, Columbia, Paraguay, Australia, Philippines, and Lebanon. Follow @cullen888 on Twitter.
Sergio Roca predicts Miss USA as Miss Universe 2012, 1RU Puerto Rico, 2RU Venezuela, 3RU Malaysia, 4RU Panama. As for the Top 10, Australia, Aruba, Paraguay, Guatemala, and South Africa,. As for the top 16, Cayman Islands, France, Norway, Finland, Columbia and Ireland. As for honorables, Sergio chose Philippines, Czech Republic, Croatia, Mexico and Kosovo. Follow Serigo @sergioluna on Twitter.
Robert Tualaulelei predicts as top 5: South Africa, USA, Kosovo, China and Philippines. The wild cards: Sri Lanka and New Zealand. Follow @robertmikiala on Twitter.
Rebecca Mathis predicts top 16: South Africa, USA, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Cayman Island, Bolivia, Paraguay, Venezuela, Malaysia, Philippines, Austrlia, Brazil, Kosovo, Ecuador, El Salavador and France. Her pick as Miss Universe 2012 is Puerto Rico. USA and South Africa are in her top 3. Rebecca Mathis was in top 10 for Miss Mississippi USA 2013, top 10 in 2012, and 2RU in 2011. I also want to share my thoughts about Miss Universe 2012 contestants. In the preliminaries, during the introductions, Kosovo, Norway, Panama, Paraguay, Philippines, Poland, Puerto Rico, South Africa, and Ukraine impressed me. As for the swimming suit portion of the pageant, Columbia, El Salavador, Finland, Ireland, Kosovo, Paraguay, Puerto Rico, and South Africa had the best stage presence. As for my most favorite part of the pageant, the evening gown competition, Columbia, Croatia, Finland, Honduras, Hungary, Mexico, Netherlands, Norway, Paraguay, Philippines, Puerto Rico, South Africa, Trindad and Tobago, Ukraine, and Venezuela outshined the other contestants. One country, Romania, had a dress that resembled one of Madonna’s outfits, especially the top part. I found it somewhat interesting, but not appropriate for her.
I also liked Sweden. She was one of the dark horses. She was quite humble, in her own way, which I liked immensely.
Switzerland reminded me of Whitney Toyloy in 2009 who was placed in the top 10.
Angola was quite beautiful, after Leila Lopes won as Miss Universe 2011, I doubt that she will be in the top 16 this year.
Ghana: I liked Erica Nego who was Miss Minnesota USA 2009 and Miss Ghana 2011.
Venezuela: She will be in the top 5 for sure, from the day she won the title for her country. She’s simply stunning!
China: She’s classy, but not as classy as Miss China 2011. In fact, she reminds me of Crystle Stewart, Miss USA 2008, and Rachel Smith, Miss USA 2007 when she walks graciously in her evening gown.
Finland reminds me of Zuelyka Rivera, Miss Universe 2006 and Gina Cerilli, Miss Pennsylvania USA 2010. I also wonder if Ukraine will once again be placed in the top 5 again for the third time, after achieving such a distinction in 2010 and 2011.
Will Australia also continue to be placed in the top 16 for the fifth time in a row?
Will the Philippines continue to be in the top 5, as in 2011 and 2010?
The Philippines’ dress reminds me of Venus Raj. I think Venus Raj’s dress is better than Janice’s.
Canada: she’s gorgeous, as the new replacement for Miss Canada Universe 2011 after Sahar Biniaz stepped down. I do believe that Sahar has a better chance of getting placed in the top 16 representing Canada at Miss Universe 2013.
Bahamas: Celeste did an excellent job, but I think Anastagia Pierre is the best Miss. Bahamas given her training as Miss Florida teen USA 2004 and Miss Florida USA 2009 and Miss Earth United States 2009.
Ireland: Her catwalk was amazing on the stage, but she was not as good as Rozanna Purcell, Miss Ireland Universe 2010 who was one of favorites to win the title. I still think Miss Florida USA 2011 and Miss Georgia USA 2011, Lissette Garcia and Kaylin Reque, have the best catwalk ever in the pageant world, especially during the swimsuit competition.
USA: I have mixed feelings about her. I loved her when she won Miss USA. I knew she would be in the top 2 along with Nana Meriwether, Miss Maryland USA 2012. I am usually right with my top 2 selections for Miss Universe, USA, and Teen USA. But I am deadlocked on this year’s top 2. I know she will make USA very proud. She’s a brilliant young lady who can sweep our feet away with her amazing answers to interview questions. I have no doubt that she will nail the interview at Miss. Universe 2013. However, I have a mixed feeling about her evening gown. Often Miss USA has one of the most beautiful gowns for Miss Universe pageants, but her gown reminds me of Scarlet O’Hara’s dress and others thought she resembled Mrs. Santa Claus. As she mentioned on Twitter earlier, the dress was “YOUnique.” She’s right. I guess she wants USA to stand out if she is placed in the top 5 and her dress would be quite visible. I could say she is one quite smart strategist.
As for the Top 5, I would say South Africa, Venezuela, Puerto Rico, and I also left the door open for two other girls whom I mentioned in the top 16 or honorables. I believe USA, Croatia, Paraguay, Finland, and Australia have a good chance of securing these two spots. I also believe that there will be one of Latina in top 2. It is really anyone’s game.
Lastly, I want to congratulate all of the beautiful girls competing for Miss Universe 2012. After the titleholder is chosen, I encourage you to go back to your country (home) knowing that you are already a winner. Keep pursuing your dreams and don’t give up. You’ve made all of us, pageant experts, bloggers, fans, families, friends, and fans proud!
